If you’re feeling tired all the time and have tried to improve your diet with little results, you’re not alone.

If you’re asking ‘Why am I feeling so tired all the time?’, this article is for you.

There are a number of factors at play when it comes to fatigue and always feeling tired.

Through my own experience with fatigue, and from working with countless tired women over the years, I’ve identified 5 main reasons why women stay stuck in exhaustion.

1. Stress

Stress can impact the function of your adrenal glands, leading to fatigue, plus brain fog, weight gain, sugar and coffee cravings and poor sleep.

Resting or taking a holiday helps very little, as the adrenals need to be toned and strengthened.

Stress also impacts how well your body is able to detoxify, as when your stress response is active, your detoxification processes are inhibited, leading to an accumulation of toxins that can cause inflammation, fatigue, brain fog and weight gain (and a whole list of other symptoms and diseases like cancer, diabetes and neurological disorders).

2. Poor nutrient absorption

When you’re constantly stressed, your body won’t absorb nutrients effectively.

So, even if you’re eating a nutrient dense diet, nutritional deficiencies can occur, which can further compromise adrenal gland function.

This explains why just improving your diet, thinking it will stop you from feeling tired all the time, doesn’t solve fatigue.

3. Obligation overload

Do you nurture and help others before yourself? Put another way – do you neglect your own needs (even eating well, sleeping, exercising etc.) because you prioritise other people’s needs?

Does the thought of saying ‘no’ to a request from someone make you uneasy? Do you say ‘yes’ to requests because you have something to prove, or feel the other person’s needs are more important than yours?

Many of us are raised to have the belief that serving others before ourselves is virtuous, and that prioritising our own needs is selfish. Especially women!

However, putting yourself last on your to-do list means you neglect doing the things that nourish and energise you. Always feeling tired all the time is a feedback mechanism. It’s a calling from your body to say ‘Hey, I need some love and attention too!’.

Putting yourself first isn’t just about scheduling ‘me time’ and making sure you do regular self-care activities.

It’s about rewiring beliefs about your worth, setting boundaries, and treating yourself as your #1 asset (because you ARE!).

4. Negative thinking

Your brain has a natural negative bias, hence why most of your thoughts are negative (so don’t think you’re alone in this!).

If you allow your thoughts to govern your life, you’ll feel constantly tired, as negative mental chatter can trigger the fear centre in your brain, keeping you in a stressed, exhausted state.

5. Misaligned living

Are you living a life that aligns with your deepest values and desires?

If not, you’ll feel a daily sense of conflict and overwhelm without knowing the real cause.

This can cause you to feel constantly tired all the time, and feed into the stress-fatigue cycle that can keep you stuck in exhaustion.
